[Press Release] The CZ.NIC Association has operated the CSIRT.CZ security team since January 1, 2011, on the basis of the memorandum concluded with the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic, which was on April 1, 2012 replaced by a memorandum with the National Security Agency.

Prague, August 27, 2015 - National Security Authority has chosen the CZ.NIC Association, the Czech national domain administrator, as the operator of the CSIRT.CZ National Security Team. This decision will be confirmed by a public law contract under the law on cyber security. The CZ.NIC Association has operated the CSIRT.CZ security team since January 1, 2011, on the basis of the memorandum concluded with the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic, which was on April 1, 2012 replaced by a memorandum with the National Security Agency.

“Over the last four years, CSIRT.CZ has become a stable part of the international security community, as evidenced by the membership in organizations Trusted Introducer and FIRST associating security teams from around the world. In the case of FIRST, we are actually the first and only organization representing the Czech Republic,” said Ondřej Filip, the CZ.NIC CEO. “Our primary objective will be to continue to address security incidents that occur in the networks operated in the Czech Republic. Other activities of the CSIRT.CZ security team will be closely associated with awareness raising in cyber security and education, primarily in the form of publishing professional and educational texts, in appearances at conferences or training in the CZ.NIC Academy education center.”

In the past, the CSIRT.CZ National Security Team has dealt with a number of security incidents that directly affected ordinary Internet users in the Czech Republic. For example we can mention the DoS attacks, which affected mobile operators, banks and the media in 2013. Another important action was the alert of security flaw in home routers, which is known as the “rom-0”. The CSIRT.CZ security team members are also involved in both local (e.g. Turris) and international (Honeynet Project) security projects.
